I have a 1991 Legacy L, FWD, 5MT. I have the early type shifter assembly shown in the thread
[/http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic. ... ht=shifter].
Why will 02-05 short shifter shown in this ebay listing
[/http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/02-03-04 ... iewItemurl]
NOT work?
Thanks

It would probably be close, but the problem I see you running into is that ball on the bottom. They aren't all the same size, so it may be bigger or smaller. I don't know of anyone who's tried it in the first shifter version, so you could give it a shot. The bushing that the other part of the linkage bolts to may be a different size as well.
You could try it, and it either works or it doesn't. If it doesn't, I'd upgrade the linkage.

Too wide.
I can't remember, but I THINK the factory short shift lever works on the 91 linkage. I THINK!
