FS: Dogbox.

Post by BAC5.2 »

For sale:

My Dogbox.

This is the first version of the TurboXS Dogbox. The same trans that was behind Nathan's 498whp WRX. It's got a straight cut first, helical second, straight cut third and fourth, with a stock Legacy 5th. It uses the stock Legacy center diff, and 1:1 transfer gears. It's a 3.90 final drive. I've got the gear ratios on my other computer that I can post.

I probably put about a hundred or so miles on it just to make sure everything was working alright.

Andrew built the trans for me at Andrewtech Automotive, and the trans never skipped a beat.

PM me some reasonable offers on the trans.

I'm only getting rid of it so that I can get something with better ratios for what I'm going to be doing.

Soon you can be shifting faster than you ever though possible!

Let me know

Helical second was just how they did it at the time. It's cool because when in 2nd gear, it's less noisy than 1st, 3rd, or 4th. Allows for the sneaky ninja sleeper attacks.

1-4 are dog gears, 5th is stock and synchro'd so highway cruising is nice and quiet. Reverse is also synchro'd, but the reverse idler is made of billet.

It's all-wheel-drive. I'd feel comfortable pushing 500 wheel horsepower through this box.

I'm looking to get $4000 shipped. Less than the cost of a PPG synchro gearset, and significantly less than a new dogbox.

Remember, this is a drop in replacement for your stock 5-speed.

Bolt this up, reinstall your stock axles and driveshaft, clutch gear, and shifter, and your ready to roll.

That's a synchro gearset.

That in-car rally video is cool, but he's wasting time using the clutch when upshifting ;). If you've got a revlimiter, you don't actually need to let off the gas OR touch the clutch.

I had a video of a clutchless 1-2 shift in my old car. I'll try to find it and I'll post it if I can.

What type of specs do you want? PM me with what you want, and I'll give you the prices.

It depends on the box. Hollinger, and Modena have designs that tend to require rebuilds every so often. It's all in the way the dog teeth are built. The sharp edges of those (and other) boxes, tend to wear down. It won't break, but it'll just pop out of gear ALL the time.

We've torn down a PPG set that was in a professional time attack race car for some 10,000 race miles. Not a lick of damage. That tranny is now being daily driven, actually, by the guy he sold it to.

Read some more of the posts above.

But, BAC5.2 works with Andrewtech automotive, and they can build you another one. It's a great shop, and the best place in the country for gearsets (only place for PPG I believe).
