Im new and have a ?

Post by rabbittyj »

my 93 legacy turbo wagon had a 5mt swapped in place of the stock tranny last september. this was before i bought it. Now the check engine light comes on at high speeds, the original owner warned me about it before i even had it happen and he said its the speed sensor because the car thinks its in park but im going real fast. the car will not give me a code and the light is never on when i start the car, just on the highway and then it goes away. Is this what you guys think it is? any ideas? my friend who owns a race car shop tells me he thinks the guy just put the tranny in and clutch and then just never redid the computer to let the car know its a stick. What should i do here?

Start by putting this thread in the right place. I'll move it for you. Also read Legacy777's auto to manual tranny conversion FAQ so you have an understanding of what it takes to make the car drive. What your mechanic is claiming isn't really possible...

Sure it is, when I did my 5MT swap I didnt change the AT/MT indent pin, all I did was install the mechanical parts and wire up the neutral/reverse switches

The car will run without doing the MT/AT pin, however it will act weird.

How are you pulling the codes? The black connectors should put the ECU into read memory mode for stored codes.

I am connecting the two black wires and then turning the car on but not starting it and waiting for it to throw me a code. The CEL light and all those goofy lights come on then shut off and it wont flash me any code, ive waited for like 5 minutes and nothing happens. I guess what im asking is should i even worry about it...the car runs awesome and has no problems and ive put like 2,000 miles on it. what shoud i do here guys? any input appreciated

Does the CEL flash at all?

If not, you haven't put the ECU into read mode. What two black wires are you connecting. I don't know the wire color, but the connector color is black.
