I am wanting to do an engine swap in my subbie but am a little confused on the differences to some engines. This is what i know the EJ25T is the us spec wrx and sti engine. The EJ20DET is the Japan spec sti engine. What is a EJ20G and other variants? What motor is the best to use for a swap. This does not need to be smoged.
I was leaning towards the EJ20DET. What do you guys think?
Engine upgrade With turbos :)

Guys,
Be nice or I might feel the need to delete your comments.
Rally,
There is no such thing as an Ej20T or Ej25T. These are things dismantlers make up to refer to an engine with a turbo on it. There is a long series of Ej20 engines starting with the Ej20G, then EJ20h, Ej20k, Ej20R, Ej20S, Ej205, Ej207, Ej208, etc. It has to do with different generations and variants of the the engines for both the WRX and the Legacy and both single and twin turbo options.
The simplest swap into a 90-94 Legacy, which is what we drive around here, is an Ej20G of either a WRX or Legacy origins. This is because there is a bare minimum of wiring required.
My final remarks will be to use your search button and read a lot of threads. Read threads by myself, Morgie, Ciper, among a number of other members. All the info you seek is here. You just need to look for it...

Thanks for shedding some light on that for me i feel like a retard now haha. One of my best friends is a s13 FREAK so i guess he rubbed off on me a little bit. I was wanting to get a 2.0 liter Turbo engine from the jdm sti (early 90's). if im not mistaken it put out 260 hp and in later years put out 280 hp then the new 300hp. If I was looking for the engine code for the 2.0 that has 260 or 280 what code would that be and what years where they produced?
I wanted to ge the dual cam engine also i know they made both.
Just finish my buddy put a obdo sr20det in a obd2 s14 and i was the lucky one who got to wire it, oh and we also did a auto to manual swap to. That was a nightmare. I dont want to jump in over my head on this project.

I am now a little more knowledgeable about my engine choices. I am now trying to decide between the ej22t legacy engine vs the non red top ej20g turboed wrx engine. What are your guys thought on these 2 engines? Would be nice to here from guys that have used them see which is more powerful/reliable. How hard is it to find parts i.e. starters, oil filters and what not for the ej20g? any help full input would be nice.

Also keep in mind that there is no such thing as a EJ20DET or a "red top" subaru engine. And if you thought wiring a nissan swap was hard, you might want to leave this one to a shop
