will not rev at wot

Post by vtxrider »

93 legacy na auto awd lsi. With car in park you give it quarter throttle and the engine will rev up. If you give it full throttle the engine will not rev up. It will stay at about 700-800 rpm and never go up. This also happens in drive so the car does not go. It doesn't even have to be wide open for it to do this maybe 3/4 throttle. this makes the car very undrivable . My daughter-in-law will not drve it anymore because she cannot get up to speed getting on the freeway.

I second this. If it's not, I'd suspect that it's burnt out and that the car is running in limp mode. Either way, the codes need the be pulled from the ECU.

There are no codes no CEL on. I have replaced the fuel pressure regulator the TPS, MAF, TCU. These were from a running vehicle. Checked fuel pressure and it is at 37 psi. when at high rpm's. I have also replaced spark plugs. I have also dropped the exhaust in case of a plugged cat. None of these things have done anything.

Just a thought. You might make sure that your intake is not plugged up somewhere. If the snorkus it still there you may have something inside that plugged it up. A quick way to check would be to take the top off the airbox and see if it revs then. If it does I would say you have an intake restriction before the airbox. Something to check anyway and good luck.

Found out what was wrong with the car. I tried everything that I could think of. I went and asked a friend who owns a shop. I told him that it would idle but when step on it would drop to 600 and stay there. He then asked me if it had no power on the road and answered that it didn't. He then told me that he knew what was wrong. He told me that the crank pulley had came lose and then destroyed the key way in the crank. He then took me into the back and showed me a Legacy with the same problem. It really wasn't what I wanted to hear. When I tore my daughter-in-law's down the crank was ruined and the sprocket on the crank would turn freely about 5 degrees. Have it out and a spare engine to get ready to put back in. The engine was out of a 5 speed so I have to change the flywheel and put all the parts back on that I took off for this engine.

Thanks everyone

Wow that is scary stuff. I keep hearing about these problems with the crank and I feel a little edgy that it might happen to me..
