Weird black box under driver seat

Post by hydrogen_wv »

There is a strange black box underneath my driver seat. It is about 8" square and abou 1.5" thick. It has 2 RF cables (like cable television cables) going into it as well as a 25-pin connector. There is also a mounting bracket on the floor for it. I have no idea what it is. I searched the internet for the serial # and stuff with no luck.

The wires go underneath the carpet so I can't trace where they go easily. The car is a 1994 Legacy Wagon GT... any idea what this box is? If pictures would help, I can go outside and take a few pictures of it and upload them. Thanks in advance for any info.

Sounds like an 'ol school cell phone box. Any indication that a handset was mounted somewhere at one time?

Maybe.. there is a black metal thing mounted on the passenger side of the console in the 'foot bay' at about shin height... It is round and has a threaded hole in it... I didn't think those 2 things were related... maybe so, though...

Sound about right?

It kinda does sound like an old phone setup...can you get any manufacturer or serial number info from it?

on the old school GL series, under the drivers seat is the control module for Ride Height Control. IT was the central brain of the series.

did your car have the ride height system in it before?

.... but that doesnt explain the RF cables....
