AWD and the speedometer.....

Post by ericem »

Someone here told me that if i unplug the speedometer i would not have AWD and it would be FWD well i unplugged it and my AWD was smooth and the car ran more consistant and overall better. My speedo bounced between 10km and now when you drive in the 0-40km range when it bounces hard the car shivers like its bouncing in gears or the solenoid C is opening and closing.

But once i inserted my FWD fuse i spun my wheels all day(made a nice dusty trail :D ) I also got the power light flashing when i drove iwth the speedometer unplugged. But when i replugged it in went away.

what i want to know is, is there 3 sensors then? What else is telling the TCU my wheels are spinning faster at the front then rear?

PS: i ordered a new speedocable :D

There are two speed sensors, the one in the dash that is the main speed reading, and one for the rear tail shaft.

ok? so how did the tcu know to engadge the rear if the speedometer wasn't active? Also i had NO binding at all which it usually has, and it engadged instantly and smoothly.

Don't know.....there's probably a fail-safe mode of operation it was using.

I just wanted to add, i got a new speedometer cable and it moves so smoothly and very precise, now when i make tight u turn's or whatver i do NOT get any binding what so ever, not a tiny bit of binding at all whether im on the gas or not no binding! so that speedometer definitly plays a large role in the AWD system, and the AWD engadges instanty. Very happy now :D
