Is this a good deal?

Post by Tone-us »

Hello all, I just came across a 97 Legacy 2.5 GT in black which happens to be my favorite color on a car. The car has 100,000 Miles and a Automatic Transmission. Body is perfect and the paint still has a nice shine to it, Interior looks bran spanking new. Price is 2,200!!!!

Is there any con's to this particular Vehicle? Any common problems that I should know or look for before buying? What do you guys think? Should I jump all over this or what?

sounds good to me, but has it popped the head gaskets yet and is the trans working fine? if not its still a decent deal. I love the GT's of that body style.

It is a very good deal, and my favorite body style as well.

I'll ask about the head gaskets... was it just the type of gasket that Subaru used to begin with or is this going to happen time and time again?
Also, I guessing the Transmission is a 4EAT? What can be done to protect them from the usual problems.... Transmission oil cooler? How much would that help? Any who, I'll be checking out the car today.... for that price.... there had to be something wrong with it right?

Is it in Oregon by chance?

There has been a reconstructed Black GT on Craigslist for months and months, up in Portland, and it looks like a total roach...so it this is the same car...Caveat Emptor!

No no, this car is located here in North Idaho... I highly doubt it's the same one.

It's the earlier head gaskets for the EJ25. I think the updated head gaskets from '03 and up, solved that problem.

My 4EAT has over 200k, and it's still going strong. All I did was changing the ATF regularly, and drove normally. Be nice to 4EAT, and it will be nice to you as well
