Ok, so I've got this EJ20G engine that I am going to sell but I am not sure if it has a closed deck block or not. At first I assumed all ej20g's were closed deck but not I don't know.
So far I've been told that if it has some kind of cross-hatching on the block it is a closed deck design. Is this true? Are there are other ways of finding out. (Other than pulling the heads off )
From what I understand, look for a casting pattern of small squares in the bellhousing. Also 3 or 4 cast lines on the starter bulge.

Phyrra is correct. It's the same for the Ej20G's. The cross hatching will be on the bellhousing as he has shown AND on the tunnel that the head bolts run through...
