Coolant tank relocation

Post by mike270 »

I appologize if this has been discussed, but I didn't find any location discussion during a search...

I just got an 06 plastic coolant tank (had thought I was getting the metal variety, but oh well, new plastic should be better than old plastic). I want to relocate it so I can use the stock 06 BPV I got with my 06 WRX intercooler (visually looks like the stock location would be in the way). I have pulled the A/C system, so I was thinking about figuring out a way to put it down where the compressor used to be and I'm wondering if that would be a good idea or not.

Basically what I'm worried about is that this location may be lower than other parts of the cooling system, rather than the highest point in the system, like I would assume the stock position would be.

So has anyone done this setup before? Or any other good mounting suggestions? It can't be floating or just sitting somewhere like I've seen others do, it has to be solidly mounted for my application.

Just mount it as high as you can in the compressor position.

I mounted my metal tank on the ABS pump bracket as high as it would go (maybe 1/4" of hood clearance). I haven't hooked it up yet, but it is definitely the highest point in the system.

That being said, everything I post is accurate to the best of my knowledge.

Thanks for the info. I'll just mount it as high as I can and try to make sure its above all the other lines. Looking at it a bit closer this weekend, I think you are right, it should still be the highest point in the top of the A/C position.
