Hey folks. I am looking at buying a 1992 legacy turbo 2.2 with an automatic
the car is in ok overall shape, it will be needing a new starter and i plan on buying it from the original owner when that goes out to hopefully get it for cheap. it also needs new struts and a few other odds and ends. the sunroof doesnt work. it has like 120k miles or so (if i remember correctly)
2 questions: what is a fair price for the car when the starter goes on it( it will go very shortly, i predict) ?
and is this car a sport sedan or did they only make them with a 5spd?
Thanks
Newb to subarus. a few questions

Why would a starter make any difference in price? It's pretty negligible compared to other things that affect the price. If you want the car, and it's for sale, don't wait for the starter to go out. Go buy it and replace the starter. 120k miles is nothing by the way.

The Sport Sedan was available with an automatic, and most of them were. Swaps have been done, by myself and others, and it's relatively painless.

It is possible that the starter is not going out but the cylinoid that controls it may. That was the prob on my car when I thought the starter was goin out

how good are you at haggeling?, i have had three, my first was a 94 5mt with 190k for $1200, then a blown auto 92 with 112k for 450, and a 94 wagon with some rust for 500, all ran/run great.if the guy needs money bad wait till he gets a bit more desperate and approach him with cash. after pointing out ebery problem to him, reluctantly whip out the wad and offer him less than what your willing to pay and be dead serious when you do it. money talks, this is how i have gotten all the good deals i have
