It's so close I can smell it

Post by voodoochylde »

After killing my 90 Legacy a coupl'a months back, I'm finally getting it dang close to being back to running order again.

I ordered a full seal kit from ebay and just completely finished the heads - cam seals, valve seals, hellacious cleaning, and a whole lotta learning.

Pardon the borderline gloating but I've never done anything more than change my own oil or build my own lightbar for a car before. I'm quite proud that I've gotten this far and have only broken one thing - a plastic tee in the PCV or vacuum system. Should be easy enough to replace.

Oh, and just in case anyone's wondering, it's taken me so long for two reasons. The first being that I don't make a lot and I have to save for stuff like this. The second is that I'm a non-experienced mechanically-inclined individual and I've been scared to death of borking something.

:D

Cool man. I'm kind of the same way. I've done a few things, replaced struts, turbo, brakes, calipers, and what not but I've never done an engine rebuild or tranny rebuild. I'd like to though and I'm always stoked to see someone learning.

Hehe, same here - it really is amazing to get something like this done...

I just finished building and installing an entire motor from the bearings up. The only motor type work Ive ever done was to disassemble and rebuild the carbs on my kart engines...

Its a real sense of accomplishment. Wait until you actually get it to run - its even more exciting.... :-)

Thanks for your encouragement and support everyone! I would have been lost without the help of the awesome community here.

I got the cylinder heads on and properly torqued this evening. I'll try to get around to the intake manifold and most of the hoses tomorrow.

I'm switching to Mobil 1 full synthetic after I replace the plastic tee I broke and the fuel line I cut :P
