Overhauled my 4EAT front diff and now I have groan while driving. Sounds like the crown gear and the pinion is not meshing properly.
I was hoping to find some advice/tips on how to properly set the gears up when installing the diff assembly.
BTW- I've done extensive searching on this specific topic but no clear details on gear setup found.
vehicle is a '94 Legacy SS.

Did you set the backlash properly when reinstalling the diff?

I tried setting the backlash with the diff on the car after the fact. I did not realise the backlash was that important.
The service manual outlines that backlash is set by rotating the retainers by the CV shaft splines.
I was hoping to get away with doing it on the car instead of removing trans again. Anyone tried this with the trans in the car.
