I recently replaced my ceramic clutch with a regular organic one that I had laying around. When I drove it, the clutch felt like it wasn't disengaging all the way and was having problems getting into first and reverse. I adjusted the clutch cable but even as tight as I could get it, it was still having problems. The ceramic clutch was not having problems disengaging before I took it out. But it would make a grinding noise when I engaged it. Not sure if that was somehow related to the torn up input shaft seal or what. So I just decided to replace it.
I pulled the transmission to replace the input shaft seal but it's ready to go back in and I really don't want to mess with the clutch again any time soon. So my question is what could be causing this? It almost feels like the clutch is too thick. One of the pins holding the throughout bearing to the clutch fork was gone when I opened it, but the clutch wasn't having problems disengaging at that time.
Here's what I could think of.
1) I should use the valco pressure plate for the clutch instead of the exedy stage one pressure plate that is on it now.
2) I overtightened the pressure plate to the flywheel...this seems like a good possibility to me..
3) Something else is wrong..
4) I should just clean up the ACT 6 puck disc and put it back in and it shouldn't grind when engaged since the seal is fixed....
any ideas would be helpful.

After reading about your problem and what fixed it I am thinking that is exactly what is wrong with my car. Mine is very hard to get into 1st and reverse. I'll have to check that when I pull the tranny out for some other problems I am having.

Lol, I didn't think the pressure plate would bolt up with the clutch disc in backwards.
