1991 Legacy Turbo Sport Sedan intercooling newbie

Post by drewriviera »

I just purchased a very mint 91 Turbo sedan. I love it but I'm always looking for more. I need to put an intercooler on it. I've looked at the forum and can't find a "dummy" friendly post about it. What I need to know is if there is a kit that fits and has all the parts to install it. I also need a source for it if there is such a thing. I am not completely down with all the lingo because I own only American cars other than this, so try to be easy on me :-) I am having a hard time finding performance parts for this car period. Am I missing something? I figured there would be a huge assortment of aftermarket stuff for this car....
Thank you in advance!

Drew, I was in your shoes six months ago. Head to the intercooling forum and check out all the threads about installing a WRX intercooler. Even though you are new to the car wade through those posts and glean what you can. Read up as much as possible over in the library. After you are done you can IM me and I'll give you any more info that I can.

I have an ulterior motive..I have an intercooler I want to sell you :-D

Christine has a new owner, apparently he hasn't abused her enough yet

LMAO

There are several intercooler options:
You could search and read up on the SAAB option
The slanty option, the 02-05 WRX option
or the 06-on or Forester option.

Or you could go full out and go front mount, but I am betting that you do not have any mods, so that would be a waste.

I have a SAAB one you can have for the cost of shipping
I have a slanty one that you can buy.

OR- I recommend hunting in the NASIOC forums and finding a 06-on one.

From my experience, no matter what IC you're gonna put on you need to be a little bit of a Shadetree Mechanic in the sense that there aren't parts designed specifically for the application on your 91.

Just read the shit out of these forums from 2004 onward and learn by asking
