Thinking of moving on

Post by dzx »

I lately moved to Las Vegas and my car is messed up....again. This time it seems that the seal on the transmission around the input shaft that goes into the engine is shot. And I just put this transmission in....I could pull the transmission out and put a new one in or I could put a new seal in this one but I'm tired of fixing it. This is the 3rd transmission I've put in if you don't count the automatic that was in it when I first bought it. It runs now, just leaks transmission oil all over the place. Before this happened, I was thinking of putting EJ20G heads and a powerFC in the car but now I may just sell it.

So I'm thinking of looking for a new car. I was thinking about an E36 M3 but I think I would miss the speed of the legacy so I'm also considering a post '94 3000gt vr4. What do you guys think? What are some good options?

Putting in an input shaft seal doesn't sound that bad...

I get down about stuff on my car all the time, and think about selling it...but then I remember how much fun I have with it, and how much I would miss it...and then I decide to fix it... :D

Hope you do the same!

3000GT's are heavy and lame.

How much do you want to spend?

I'd look into a Galant VR4 if you want the sleeperness still.

If you want newer, the E36 M3 is pretty cool. But they are horribly slow. They do handle nicely though, but people think your a pussy usually.

If you want something else to increase reliability you're looking at the wrong cars (e36 m3 aside).

BAC is right, the 3000gt is a heavy pig and in the end they're not reliable. The ECU's go, the tranny's fail without putting much power through them, etc.

I like GVR4's, but it's just like starting over with another legacy SS. You're at the mercy of how well the car was maintained. It could be reliable or it could be another PITA.

It sounds like you want AWD or RWD. I'd go with a 91-95 240sx in good shape and put a stock SR20DET swap in it. It's a simple swap and they're extremely reliable it you leave them alone or just do full exhaust and a couple extra pounds of boost.

a 3000gt weighs like 3800lbs but can make silly power.

a gvr4 is like 3600lbs, and pretty much a rarer, heavier, uglier, more unreliable SS.
stick with the SS, I bet you will regret it if you do sell, and with problem like a leaky input shaft you wont get the price that you should.
or maybe go impreza? :P
rwd, id get an e30 325is.

I looked into a 3000gt vr4 before I bought my legacy a couple years ago. I know they are heavy pigs. As the SS sits now, it would walk all over a stock vr4 pretty easy. But I think the vr4 has more potential with it's bigger engine. And to me it looks sexy.

1- you'd be learning a car all over again. Some would consider this exciting, but I don't.

2- not too many ppl expect a leggy. Everyone's biting at you in a vr4. Cops notice you more too.

2a- if I was an idiot looking to jack a car for a joyride and I found a vr4 and leggy parked next to each other, which one do you think I'm gonna jack?

3- do you really think a mitsu forum would or could ever be as good as this one?

They do look sexy though. But you don't always need sexy to have a good time. At least you're not hyping about a Corvette (j/k).

if you want a sexy pig withe huge silly number potential get a late model supra...

sex, speed and silly heavy...

only problem (besides the above) is that the bigger turbos only make power about 100 rpm away from redline

Supras have a silly fan club and silly price tags.

That's true, I would have to learn a new car all over again and this forum is probably my favorite.

Well, the days of driving the legacy are over....I bought a 2007 double cab Toyota Tacoma SR5 last night...now my legacy can be finished without time being an issue. I'll post pics of the truck later. It's hot.

interesting thread.

always wanted a vr-4 and stealth TT's
know they're heavy bastards, but they look sleek (i prefer the stealth TT)

You can't go wrong with the truck you've picked up.

And as long as you know you'll never get the kind of $$$ you've poured into the legacy, then why bother to sell it?

keep it as a project car and have even more fun with it.

The X-runner is gay.

My Fiance's dad has exactly the truck you bought. It IS nice. Drives VERY well. My old engineering teacher had a similar one too. His was nice and fun off-road too.

Thanks guys. Phil, I never knew you had a fiance, congratulations and good luck with that.

I'm looking at getting a grille guard, tail light guards and possibly some running boards. I want to do some research on a supercharger for the engine but I don't know if there's really a point. I'll probably just keep my legacy for when I want to go fast and leave the engine on the truck alone.

Yep, wedding is next may! We've been engaged for like 4 months now.

I am corrected, her dad's is an 06 Tundra. Still a nice truck, the Tacoma is. The X-runner is still gay, so I'm glad you didn't get that one.
