Be wary...

Post by Tleg93 »

I'm just putting this out there for any unwary persons who might have dealings with bepa. The guy sold me a wreck for way more than it was worth and concealed significant damage to the car. All he told me was that it needed a new tranny. He 'forgot' to mention that the car was in a wreck of some kind that resulted in a smashed underside. Now it seems that he may have hit a bundle of rebar, which would make sense since I'm dealing with a bent crossmember, ruined mounts, crushed drain pan, bent control arm, bad tranny, busted air dam, and ruined interior.

I'd say he's far from trustworthy so buyer beware.

Do you have pics of the damage?
Also what were you buying and what was it listed as?

I like to get the full story before I cry wolf, but I hate to hear of people not being honest and upfront on things.

I see, so it wasn't him that hit the rebar. It was just a guess Phil put out there, not a certainty.

As for crying wolf, no I don't have pics but let's get real man. The guy told me that the tranny needed work. I accepted that because I had another. He DID NOT tell me about the multitude of other things wrong with the car. Pics aren't possible at this point because the car is out getting repaired. Besides, my word is good and I'm not a liar. What would I have to gain from spreading a lie about a guy I barely even know. Look, this shit is way beyond the pale and I don't think this should be turned on me to say prove it. I'm sure Matt would vouch for me. He's been around for all of this bullshit. I got ripped off by a hack-ass motherfucker who saw me coming a mile away. He gets my messages but doesn't respond, hmmmm.

Scott is definately not a liar, that's for certain. I haven't seen the car, but I've got two good friends telling me it's fucked up, and I believe them.

This is a real problem, and it would be nice if Bepa would step up to the plate and at least give us some reasons or answers.

Thanks Phil, I appreciate the sentiment. I jumped the gun on dscoob a bit just because I was on a bender. I'm glad you feel I'm an honest person. I do try to be one in all my dealings. To me, it's one thing to sell someone a beater but it's quite another thing to leave out 80% of the problems a car has to make a sale.

+1 on Scotts honosty. Plus I have been seeing all these problems first hand and IMHO Scott is actually down playing them and being a lot more civil about it then I would have been.

It's painfully obvious that bepa hit something, lost control and slammed a curb is my guess and that when he hit the oil pan is why the engine mounts were torn and the cross member bent.

I dont know the specifics here but didn't you look at the car when you bought it? I'm not shitting on you here but what I'm saying is that its your responsibility to know what your buying since your forking over the cash. I'm in no way defending an un honest person. I dont condone that, but what I'm saying is that you almost seem surprised that someone selling you a used car didn't tell you all the things wrong with it. when buying a used car you have to assume that EVERYTHING that comes out of that persons mouth is false because they are telling you what you want to hear to get your money. its as simple as that. If you you had just asked to take it somewhere to lift it up and take a look undernieth (which is not an uncommon request when buying a used car) maybe you would have seen him sweat and could have passed on the car without even having to do so.

True, A point I've been thinking about myself.

Problem for Scott was the fact that he had to meet this guy half way between NY and Williamsport PA. SO he had very limited resources to be checking out the car very thoroughly. Again, risky way to purchase a car but not entirely uncommon.

The real point is that this wasn't just a random car sale, this was a LCO member to member transaction and I guess that personally I just expect more from board members. I think the member to member burn is more the sting of it then just the money.

I will say though too, when I bought my Outback I went for quick test drive and put two wheels up on a curb so I could crawl under it and check it out. I also checked all the fluids for levels and color, checked elecrical ect so I was pretty thorough... Then 20 miles from the guys house the clutch started slipping!

He was cool and payed for a new clutch and was some random guy that put an ad in the paper and I had to drive 2.5 hours to get the car.

I did look the car over. It's not easy to see a bent crossmember or control arm. I drove it, it seemed fine. I did see the crushed drain pan but I just didn't put two and two together. As far as the engine mounts go, it's pretty hard to see those in that situation. Another element to this is that my buddy drove me down there so I'm on his time and his time is usually pretty full with 5 kids and all.

All in all I've spent a total of 2200 bucks for all the repairs and the purchase so it's not that bad but it's just the fact that I wasn't told about some huge wreck. The lack of honesty disgusts me.

When I bought the car the guy gave me his home phone, told me where he worked and told me he wanted to do business in the future. All that in mind, I don't think it was unreasonable for me to assume the damage would be limited to what he said it was.

My mechanic also installed the bigger turbo, upipe, intercooler and ran the intake tract, all for 900 bucks. At least I got a good deal on all that.

Matt, exactly the same thing happened on my Forester. I bought it and the first day after I got tags, the clutch started slipping so badly I couldn't get the car up my driveway. I just left it alone and fixed it on my own. I got too good a deal on the car to complain to the seller about a measley clutch job. Plus, it was an excuse to wrench around on the car :).

At least you got it all settled out Scott, that's a plus.

A dented oil pan isn't necessarily an indicator of a serious offroad excursion either. Several JY pans I've seen have been dented in front and my wagon's was dented when I bought it, yet had no other visible damage. I wonder if the ground clearance encourages people to not worry about hitting the bumper when pulling up to a curb and they hit the pan when they go way too far. I've never hit the pan myself and have taken the vehicle further off road than your average person would, so there has to be a more pedestrian cause for it.

The oil pan is just the tip of the ice berg though. The oil pan was smashed, the control arm bent, the crossmember bent, the sway bar was bent (iirc) and the engine mounts were blown to hell. All that together suggest an impact to the suspension and undercarraige to me.

Matt, I was just commenting on that if you saw a dented oil pan it doesn't necessarily mean the car had an offroad excursion.

I would also like to throw my simpathy into the flame. I PRIDE myself on being a board member and with that i believe every sale i make on this board comes with my word stamped on the casing...

If i heard i sold a defective anything to any of you on here, my FIRST action would be to fix it... 125% . I see this site as a reason for my car sitting outside of my job right now... it wouldnt be running if it weren't for everyone on this site....

I'd also like to restate the karma thingie...

I too have driven WAY WAY too far for a used cheap car, but when you bring ANYTHING to a forum like this, you're just putting your name right on it. I purposfully have sold lesser quality parts elsewhere because i didnt know how they would hold up as soon as they were sold (and was described in whichever ad they were in) but i wanted to make sure i didnt strand a board-member with a lesser-quality or possibly damaged part.

In short (why im preaching to the choir... who knows) its like everyone here is lending a hand to each other....

one hand scratches anothers...back...or something....

.....and it sucks to get your back scratched by a hand thats on fire.

scott first I did try to get back to you.

I was away for 16 days then got sick firast night back for 3 more days.

I did not have the money to offer to buy the car back. did offer to buy or get you parts.

do not know if you would exchange car for this, like to get it at a good price or what.

if not what you like for the repairs you did.

I really don't sell to many cars. I offer the partsw I do sell at low prices. I pay what I owe and even offered to work something out with you before.

when I first said I was sorry I sold you the car, it was because of not liking to fuck anyone over.

yet you fing drag my name around here like the devil.

you never called me back, some lady calls my phone like I was a girl in the night to question me who I am. and you put your side of it up for all to read.

my offer was to try and make it right by you. I can not give you the car. but if your repair/replacement are not finish you can look at the car and make an offer you fell good with. something that would correct how you feel about the car.

I am sorry that you get hurt in this. really sorry. daniel

karma

Post by bepa »

if this is something to do with karma I am in a good way. as god is in my life and good deeds for other is what I live for i am ok.

as I had told scott before even selling the car it was for my son. I had to go ou of town.

by the time I got back most of the post were already up. many views. that nice.

I see by the rest of the post your done with the work.

same thing as in last post.

seeing post and reading rest, being called a mother fucker did nothing for me. make me write about some lady calling me back, that was wrong. on my part!

scott, I would make a lift available by renting it from shop in mount vernon. you could look under, inside and see what you went to look at.

you would still have a bad taste but maybe you would like the white car and at least wash some of the bad taste away.

I do not have anything else to offer you scott. but do wish to fix this someway.

Where I'm at currently with my car.

-Engine swap $1000.00
-Tranny job $2300.00
-Control Arm, Sunroof, VF8 install, front passenger fender, ABS sensor, Interior cleansing, and other assorties around $350.00

I have a spare ej22t sitting around, VF11, ECU, TCU, and Intake tract, and other stuff. The car needs body work and painted (my preference). I've halted plans to replace the interior. I simply pulled it out and washed it all. I'd like to go with a boost contoller\gauge, 2.5" exhaust, WRX front seats and tinted windows. All of this lies beyond my means at the moment since I'm in survival mode. I did replace the speakers that were blown but that's about it, other than what was mentioned above. I pulled the air compressor. That's about it folks. I'd like to do a 5mt swap but I'm ass broke now. I wish I would have jumped on Phil's car before it was smashed all to hell. Oh, I need to get some 16" WRX wheels. What will probably come first is the body work to prevent a cascade of rust. After that I dunno. For a short while the boost solenoid wasn't hooked up and the car was running full open. I thought it was going way too fast and then there was fuel cut. The damn mechanic hooked the vaccum hoses up all wrong!!!

scott would a 92 SS 5MT CAR FOR A LOW PRICE BE ANY KINDA OF MAKE UP ON THE FIRST ONE.

this is in the same condition I got it. have not put on road. had oil pump seal leak from start. have not had on road. would start just leaked to fast to drive any where.

it's white, I have another complete sunroof for it. no radio but interior is fair to good. really did not get to look and think about it so much. was brought blind. did not even have a picture of it.

it was in mississippi and title says so. paid for car then tow to new york. oh and radiator has a split in plastic end piece.
