Toda Racing Lightweight Flywheel

Post by tyman85 »

I have decided to go with a heavier flywheel. This one is brand new and they usually go for around 425. I am selling this one for 235 shipped. Let me know if you have any questions.

It'll sell, especially at that price.

You should post it in the Legacy classifieds as well, as a specific part ;)

Curious - what else do you need to run this on our cars?

Also what are effects - downsides/upsides of super(?) light flywheel?

How light is this one?

Also, can you post the Toda part number?

Thanks

Benefit - better acceleration in first and second gears because of the reduction in mass. Easier rev matching/heel-toe because of lighter weight and faster revving. Probably easier on the clutch because of the weight (less inertial mass) Mod list BLING!

Drawback - Easier to stall from a stop. Costs money.

Interesting...I like bling!!

Another Q? Does it have to be mated to a certain clutch?

I'm running a SS 5MT with WRX clutch and flywheel...

Would I need an "upgraded" clutch or Toda product pared to this flywheel?

It should work just fine with whatever clutch you currently have.

I can't say for sure if this will work with your setup, Matt Monson would probably know, or someone more familiar with flywheel compatibility might also.

You probably already know this but for the benefit of others:

If you regularly do a lot of highway/interstate or a lot of non-stop-and-go driving, a heavier flywheel will give you a little better gas mileage and better coasting once you lift off the throttle.

The lighter the flywheel, the more quickly the car will slow down when you lift your foot off the throttle. (If you're going to have another person drive the car who doesn't have a steady right foot, it could make for a jerky drive -- I rode once in a car driven by a gal who had a very nervous personality -- she lifted her foot off and on the accelerator every second or two -- I had a bit of motion sickness by the time I got out of the car.)

Good point - just like a race car. Make sense that this is a race car application and in racing you supposed to be accelerating or braking only, not coasting...Suppose it could help support your brake system? At least make your more aware you are off the throttle. You can't always hear especially when they make you run with the window down for safty reasons (don't ask)...

Cool, would you mind me posting the link to the specs when I find them?

Also, what was your orginal plan to use this part - what clutch etc.?

there are the specs. I was planning on building a pure race vehicle but have changed my mind on that. So with that said, I hadnt picked out a clutch yet, sorry. Because of its reduction in mass I was planning on going with a 6 puck originally, no brand specifically.

could be good for Rallycross launch since you dont have much traction it could keep you from overpowering the tires.
