t bolt hose clamp torque

Post by kleinkid »

Is there a reccomended torque value for t bolt hose clamps?

OK, I'll answer my question. Did some research and determined a consensus of 50-60 in/lbs. by reading several T-bolt mfg. web sites. Do not know if this includes the running torque(torque to over come the self locking nut) or not. The threads are appprox. 1/4 in. dia. so 50-60 in./lbs. seems reasonable.

all i know is run them down just till you can see them start to press into the hose, other wise you case easily strip the clamps and it can make them a real big pain to get off

its not really that they strip, its more like they wear out easily. kinda hard to describe. Doug and i have had the problem numerous times. you can only reuse a t-bolt hose clamp3 or 4 times er so till you notice a difference in the threads. and its not so much the clamping, its the getting them off that becomes a problem
