my front mount journey

Post by 92ss satinsvoice »

ok every one i jumped in with both feet and dont give a damn! i didnt sleep before i went to work, so when i got off at 12:30 afternoon. i started tearing my car apart.

here we go.
first i got the lights out and side lights with grill.
Image

then i took the front skin off with the fenders attached. it made it really easy to take off.
Image

another view.
Image

beam is off.
Image

you can see the saw i used a little and figured it cant do the job. so i went to ralli-tek to talk with my buddy for help. ill post more pics tomaorw as the story unfolds.

im dead tired, ive been up for two days. now im hittin the clubs with some friends to keep my mined off other crap in my life. 8)

Whatever you cut, I recommend getting some zinc galvanizing spray from an electrician suppy place and coating the exposed metal. You can paint over it after if necessary, but the zinc will give you about as much weather resistance as the uncut metal had where it would otherwise get under any paint rather quickly. Grind away the old paint a little way around the new cuts before zinc-ing it so it's a smooth transition.

Good idea removing the bumper and fenders as a piece.

one of the fellers accidentally cut off the top bar so we had to weld it back on, then we cut off the bottom and it still needed more cut off. so the next day i brought my intercooler with me and cut it for the threrd time. then we went to a hard wear store and bought some bolts to mount it on the beam. drilled holes in the bar and it fit really nice.

here is the re welded top beam.

Image

heres it done at the shop
Image

bolted up nicely :D
Image

and here is the final product.
Image

all done in about 8-9 hours. now all ive got left to do is the piping and ill be done :-D

ill take a pic of it in the morning went its light out.

lookin like this up coming monday im getting my perfect power and avo fuel cut defender installed. hopfully ill get my pipes all ready to be welded soon. then it will be time for a few road pulls for tuning 8) .

update: the project is moving along but its very expensive to do this type of set up. and if some one tells you its not. they dont know what there talkin about. it would be safe to say it would cost about $800-$900 or more to have this done. espesually if you dont have any connections or the equipment.

ive got about $300 more worth of stuff to buy now just to finish my project.

this is just freakin insane.

im going to bash my head into the wall for not thinking this all through.

I hope you have a wideband O2 for tuning your Perfect Power...because you cannot adequately tune it otherwise

What size is that core?

You still have a/c, correct?

Looks nice. That's almost exactly what I was planning on my '91, though when I tried to remove my bumper cover to scout out the fitment, I broke all the bolts I tried to remove......

I see tubing in the fog light holes, is the FMIC finished?

This took me & my buddy 1.25 days to complete, fitting the I/C (31"x12"x3") into the beam & b-cover was a pain in the butt.

Looks good .

it qiute simple. first you remove the grill, then the corner lights and head lights. you will see plasic type rivites with screws in them. take them out. there will be about 6 more under the car for the bumper skin. there a bitch to get out. next there are two 10mm bolts that hold the skin to the fender. there right in front of the wheel. then there are another two 10mm nuts that are in the fenderright where the corner light goes.you will need an extention and maybe a deep socket.
