Will a 2.5L from a 98 outback, fit into a 94 ??

Post by killion22 »

I have a '94 legacy wagon with an EJ22T in it and have bought a 2.5 from a '98 legacy outback. My old motor broke a rod, so if it can be bolted right up that'd be great. Can it be put right in or is it going to take some midifying? please reply or pm me to let me know. Thanks

It's all about the idea of Legos with Subarus.
All the motors fit (minus the H6) w/o any real issues. Wiring will be different for some of the sensor plugs. So you'll have to take issue of that.

BTW, you can turbo the 2.5 motor but it's not as strong of a motor as the EJ22T. The cylinder walls are much thinner since the 2.5 is a bored out 2.2 block. My buddy turbo'd his Legacy 2.5GT and he runs into over heating problems from time to time if he beats on it hard... The EJ22T block will not have this issue. Keep the EJ25 heads, they are a decent flowing head vs. the EJ22, EJ22T.
