dropping some pounds from the legacy

Post by greg donovan »

we are getting serious about reducing weight on our rallycross car.

since it no longer has to be driven on the road we are probably going to remove the front bumper beam and headlights. to keep things looking nice we will cover the headlight openings with some thin black plastic.

we are also going to relocate the battery.

the interior will be totallly stripped out except for the bare minimum needed on the dash. we will be keeping the dash cover and the defroster/vent fans so we can keep the window fog free if necessary. the car doesnt have AC. it will only have one racing seat.

has anyone removed the bracing from under the hood and trunk?

any other suggestions?

we dont want to bother with lexan in the rear window since the rear is allready pretty light since it is a FWD.

I think you need speed holes.

right now it is no trim.

it was a 90 FWD L. it no longer has much of the interior left. the trim panel from the rear decklid is gone.

it does still have the power windows. they arent that much heavier than the crank windows.

it also has a rear swaybar and rear disc brakes.

no AC and no ABS.

The 'L' is what I was looking for :P

Take out the fuel tank and replace it with a 10gal fuel cell, should save ~30lbs

Swap the rad out for a smaller one. Lose a rad fan if you have 2.

It'd be better to glass a hood and trunk than remove the bracing. Also, do the doors and fenders while you're at it. Lexan the glass, and that's pretty much it without going tube frame.
