2WD Rear wheel bearing questions

Hi

I have a 93 Legacy L 2WD and the rear wheel bearings are getting noisy I checked the wheels and everything is pretty tight but I have a loud rumble noise. When I looked into replacement parts there's bearings only or a hub assembly. How tough is this repair and which parts do you recommend? I do have access to a hydraulic press. Most of the info I found is for 4WD. How different is it on 2WD?

(This is Legacy #3 for me, it currently has 363,000 km (225,000miles) I'm trying to make it last a little longer)

I know the rear bearings on the FWD models are ball bearings. I don't know if they use the same procedure to install.

I ordered some bearings and I'm tearing into it tomorrow. The parts store said there's an inner and outer bearing similar to older cars. Just have to knock out the inner race from the hub and then press in the new race and reassemble. My Chiltons manual says to remove the knuckle but I don't think I have to.

The saga continues.

The parts store misplaced the order so they ordered again. Tried to install the parts today and they aren't even close so I need to get the correct parts, hopefully tomorrow.

The hub came off easy enough, pulled off the brake rotor and removed the nut and the hub slides off and the bearing is inside the hub. I had them order a hub assembly with the bearings already inside.

Got it fixed!!

The new Hub assembly was actually the correct one. Easy to change, pull the brake rotor off and remove the nut on the end of the spindle and the hub slides right off.

When I brought the original bearings back to Canadian Tire parts store I asked them to update the database so someone else doesn't get the wrong parts too. The blank stare I got back doesn't give me much confidence that it will get fixed.

Westwind, I sent you an email, but how did you figure out which bearing was going bad?

I sent you a reply, basically I guessed that it must be a wheel bearing by the sound. Note that my info applies to FWD only, AWD is different.
