Legacy vs Impreza

Post by Darkseb »

It's more a poll then a question so here the topic: Does it worth to be stuck in 90-94 era with our old legacy or is it ok to upgrade for a 93+ Impreza ? plz comment

90-94 has a lot of history which I like the most. (speed records, rally, mileage, reliability, etc etc.)

early gen impreza's seem to plain.

Not sure I see where your coming from. Unless your talking a WRX or 2.5RS, all the 'lower' Imprezas look the same to me. A few detail changes through the years but nothing considerable.

Am I missing something?

Front ends can be converted though. I think there's a how to on nasioc. As far as looks go, I think you can make an impreza look nicer than our legacys, but build quality isn't up to par with the legacy.

I know about the facelift and the new dash, but the changes are very minor. To me at least. A bit sharper lines on the lights/grill/bumpers and clearer headlights.

The pre and post facelift BCs have more differences than the GCs did with thier facelift.

IMO, of course.

The build quality on my Impreza seems to be as good, if not better than any of my legacys

And of course front ends can be converted, but how hard is it to find an entire 97+ front end swap for less than the difference of the price between a pre 97 and a post 97?

I find the pre lift imprezas to be really boring looking. Not attractive at all.

Legacy has a lower CD.
Midnight in a Perfect World on Amazon or order anywhere. The first book in a quartet chronicling the rise of a man from angry criminal to philanthropist. Midnight... is a distopic noirish novel featuring 'Duchess', a modified 1990 Subaru Legacy wagon.

all you need to swap is lights, grille, bumper and hood.

I have heard from numerous sources that the BC Legacy is a better balanced car than the Impreza...and from my experiences driving Imprezas, it feels very much so to me...

Conventional wisdom dictates otherwise, since the Impreza is what Colin McCrae came up with after driving the Legacy...

The longer wheelbase helps high-speed stability. The shorter wheelbase promotes quicker reactions.

In the rally world, the BC wins out on the logging roads. The GC takes the Super specials and the rally crosses. Generically speaking, of course.

The Legacy is generally more plush than the Impreza. Rarely any 90-94 Legacys came without power windows/locks/mirrors and most Impreza's did.

BC N/A Legacy vs 2007 Impreza 2.5i

Post by schspeedster »

The 2007 comes equipped with a payment but you get a batch of new parts pre-assembled in Gunma. Test drove one, nice but taking the payment into account wasnt overwhelmingly superior to my '93 with 200K miles. Unfortunately the test drive didnt include off-road.

I have spent a fair bit of time in a BC in such a situation, and will have to concur

And Colin McRae drove whatever he was given to drive...

And he was quite successful in the BC cars

I thought the BC Leggy won just 1 WRC event right before the intro of the Impreza, maybe it had more wins in other rally series...

Both cars are nice - the Impreza being lighter & more nimble while the Legacy is more roomy & the ultimate sleeper.
So the solution is to own both!

The Impreza was born when Subaru sat down with McRae and said to him "So, you've driven the Legacy for a couple years in Rally, how can we make it better?"

He basically told them make it lighter and give it a shorter wheel base

How did you ascertain such info?
