16" acrylic would be easy and you could paint the underside of it so it for protection and good finish then just double-sided tape them on.

Here are some more pics. To answer some questions, I made the eyelids out of some plastic i cut from a garden fence thingy. I have my main outline still so I could be bothered to make more maybe. I have also painted the inside of he headlights housing (around the reflector) black for that uber sexiness (thanx to bmxkelowna for the idea),, now on to the pictures:
