1993 leg wgn sunroof leaks, where are the drain holes??

have read the numerous threads about the sunroof leak problem and was going to try and clean out the drain holes but cant seem to find them? anyone have pics have where they are? i open the sunroof all the way but still cant seem to find them.

also, the control doesnt work the way the owners manual says it should, when closing, i have to keep the button pushed the whole time, the manual says to push once and it will go half way, stop, and then you have to push it again...possible connection with the leak? dont see how but ya never know

in case it matters i do have the deflector mounted for the sunroof/moonroof...

we are coming up on rain for a good part of the week here in seattle so would like to figure this out

They're on all four corners of the sunroof cutout in the roof. The front two are the easiest to get to. Just open the sunroof, get out, look at the front corners and you're bound to find them. You might have to take the deflector off, not sure. I never worked with a deflector.

If you think they're clogged, take some weedwhacker line and stuff it down in there. The drain should empty out right by the door hinge behind the weatherstripping.

you cant really see the back ones unless your ceiling panel thing is removed, but you still cant get to them without removing the whole assembly i think

do you ever use the sun roof? if you dont, its easiest just to run silicone along the crack between the window and roof, shouldnt leak at all then

Actually, if it's anything like mine you will need to reseal the sunroof to the pan, which means the headliner has to come out. You can silicone the sunroof/body joint to get by, but the right way is to drop it and replace the dryrotted foam tape Subaru used when they put it together.

Took me the better part of 1 day to take it apart, reseal it andd put the sunroof back up, another 1/2 day to put the interior back together (but I was changing from tan to blue interior anyway)

yeah i did that too, its not so bad except getting the trim pieces out, i broke half my trim clips before i figured out the right way to take them out, that took me probably 60% of the time i spent working on it

i didnt use the factory sealant, i used silicone

problem is that its my dd and dont have a half day or full day to futz around with it, may have to bring into my subie mechanic..was hoping to at least try and clear the gutters though

Just clear the drains and see what happens.

The wagon my grandfather bought would leak like crazy through the sunroof, and we actually figured that was why the PO sold it when we found out.

So, I did just that. I stuck weedwhacker line into the front drains and guess what came out?

Glass shards!

As soon as I saw that, I looked at the little decal on the sunroof and sure enough, it wasn't original. The car had never had any sign of an accident, and the windshield and all the windows were original. So I'm guessing maybe a baseball landed right on top of the sunroof or something and didn't touch the rest of the car.

Anyway, I cleaned those drains out, and guess what? The sunroof never leaked again.

Like I said above, it took me a while longer as I was swapping out the whole interior at the same time I was resealing the sunroof. Definately try to clean the drains out first, and ir you have to you can alwasy silicone the sunroof into the opening until you have tome to rip it out, if needed...

Looks like your nearby, I'm in Spanaway. may be willing to help reseal it a little ways down the road. I have a heated garage to work in, and it shouldn't take as long this time.....

I too have been reminded that I need to fix my sunroof, because of the recent rains. My front two drain fine (well at least water comes out both), so I guess a complete resealing job should be done. Now to wait for a decent weekend before I head back to Oregon...

The holes in the front are hidden, as one can kind of tell in the picture:
