My gas mileage PwNz

Post by entirelyturbo »

I just filled up when leaving work today.

My trip odometer said 382.6 miles (actually it was halfway between .6 and .7 so I calculated as .65, so 382.65) on one tank. My fuel light had just begun to flicker at 375 miles, but was staying on more steadily once I pulled into the gas station.

I filled the tank up with 13.452 gallons of gas...

... and that calculates out to roughly 28.44 mpg.

Granted, almost all of it was highway driving between Saturday and today. I drove to Gainesville, home of the Gators, to get a used WRX timing belt from petridish38 (who still has his Legacy, but doesn't drive it much anymore), and then drove to my girlfriend's house on the east coast, by the Kennedy Space Center, and then to work this morning. And my A/C's still not working, so I wasn't using it obviously.

But this was with the cruise set at 80mph about 80% of the time, with a 173k-mile 91 Legacy, with 15k-old spark plugs (which is about all copper BKR6E11 plugs are good for), with two known noisy wheel bearings and a misaligned driver's door that makes wind noise, and with an ORIGINAL O2 sensor.

... getting 28.44 mpg and going 382.65 miles on one tank.

I managed a very surprising 26.5 on my last tank. Might have had to do with the, fresh oil, plugs, and air fliter and lack of driving lights.

Plus I was going ~75 instead of 85-90 on the freeway, which makes a pretty big difference.

I get 18 on my city driving commute to work.

That's not too shabby. The best my NA FWD legacy has ever seen was 32. I average between 29-31

I average around 24-26 around town. Best so far is 28.2 MPG highway driving from Portland to Boise with the cruise on in 5th.

I get about 22 or so mixed, mostly city in the Forester. But all 4 wheel bearings are toast in mine.

Wagon has bested 29 on the highway on 2 separate 600 mile trips, and gets right at 21 in town/commuting (with the wife driving, she doesn't beat on it like I do).

The G20 got 32.25 mpg on one tank of gas recently, in a combination of 75-80 mph highway driving and arterial roads. I'm confident it could have gotten 34-35 if it had been all highway.

My old Legacy, on the other hand... I was lucky to get 20 in mostly city driving, and the highest I ever got was 27, all interstate.

I just made virtually the exact same trip this past weekend. I only got 27.5 something mpg I think, can't remember exactly, but it was lower than the last time, probably because I was a little more lead-footed this time.

Regardless though, I stretched it out a little more and pulled into the gas station with 384.4 miles on the odo. Fuel light was on, although not steady.

This last weekend, we drove across Washington to get the car tinted. ( Long story)

She was driving out, while I drove another car.

She managed 26 mpg.
On a good day, if I keep my foot out of it, I may get 23.
Yes I have too many Subarus
