Who's In - JDM Legacy sideskirt fabrication opportunity
Ok everybody...Jake has offered to put up his newly purchased JDM sideskirts as a master to create a mold from which we could produce however many sets we want.
Jake will let this happen ONLY if the following conditions are met:
-This fabrication must take place in Jake's area (Tacoma WA)
-the sideskirts Can NOT be damaged...but if they are, you can just have a free set ...j/k
-Has to be organized by others than Jake and coordinated around his schedule.
Jake...feel free to add any other regulations.
Let's make this happen...the more the cheaper it will probably be.
We need to research possible shops and start a list of interested people. WHen it looks like reality..we will figure out the final total and coordinate a payment plan...
Let me know what you think....

I'd take a set in an heart beat if...
...my question is how will they look without lip and tail skirting to match? Is there plan B for copying those?

Nice...keep em coming guys....the more the better. I think if we shop around and even ship all of them at once...we are bound to get bulk deals.
As soon as we have a decent interest, we can star preparing some sort of performa for the project.

dscoobydoo- do have, or could you get, a front lip we could add to make a more complete 'body kit'?

You guys don't want much do you?
There is a STI front lip for the BC/BF I have seen a few times, but shipping from Japan would put the total cost in the $450-$500 range.
I would consider it if I did not have to eat the costs myself for the first one.
But first we should find a plastic fabricator who can do the job and see how much the costs would be before we add on another part.

Cheesandrice. I didn't think it'd be that unreasonable. Is that just for the STi piece or are they all that ungodly?shipping from Japan would put the total cost in the $450-$500 range.

Rare part, wierd size - long and fragile costs lots to ship...Not purely an STi thing...

I'm in depending on cost.
Just so I'm on the same page, are you guys looking to have one made out of plastic or out of composites? You're looking at having a mold made from Jake's set and then using that? Are you looking at a 'performance auto shop' who will buy the tool and make the new parts? Are the new parts being made by a member or are you looking for a professional to do all of it?
I work in the aerospace composites business and we do use a few toolers located in Tacoma/Sumner. However, right now any tooler in anywhere close to Seattle is absolutely slammed with work for the new Boeing 787. If you're looking to get work done by anybody other than Bob who's working out of his garage, lead times are going to be out there 14 - 18 weeks and it's going to be costly, as in well over $5000 for just the sides - just for tooling.
Now if somebody knows someone who can do this privately then I'd be all about that . And then again, maybe tooling and everything will be cheaper for plastic than composite.
