A fork in the road! Need fellow legacy owner's guidance!

I am kind of at a fork in the road with my car. I can't decide what direction I want to go with it, and I really need some of your opinions. First off, I am never going to sell the car. It will always be in the possesion of my dad and I. So, with that said, here are some of my options:

1. Make the car look amazing- do all body work, and custom charcoal paint with some kind of 17" bronze or gold wheels. JDM headlights, Sidemarkers, Tails, Sideskirts, Rear Lip, etc.
JDM 7,000 RPM redline tach, 89' Legacy rear trunklid (winged or wingless)....... and the 'beauty' list goes on

2. Make the thing a freakin 11-12 second beast. Full EJ22T closed deck stroker with full forged internals, ported heads, delta cams, 30r, frontmount, 1,000 cc injectors, full standalone, etc. you get the picture

3. Leave it the way it is. Try and see if a magazine will take it in it's current form, save up and build a legacy rally car to get started in the sport. (90-94 Legacy sedan, with full cage, harnesses seats, etc. no go fast bits until I am ready)

4. Save up and buy a WRB impreza 2.5RS coupe as a sexy, reliable, good gas mileage daily driver for college

5. do a little bit of it all!

Need some help here guys and gals.....

1 is an exercise in futility. You can make them look decent, but I dont think amazing is possible. Amazing to fellow legacy owners, yes, but not to that hot 19 year old you passed 2 blocks back... yanno?

I say number 5.

Go ahead and make the SS a little faster, but unless you're planning on strictly tracking it, don't go crazy with it.

In my opinion, a full-out built-from-the-ground-up race car is cool, but it's not much fun if you're not racing it. Yes, racing is fun, but I'd rather have a car that's at least streetable enough that I can take it out on a weekend and enjoy it.

I'd aim for 200chp in the SS, get a 2.5RS (good luck finding a low-mileage one), and then if your budget allows, get a N/A Legacy and completely gut it and make that your rally car, like Nick and Matt have.

I think not. Stock they look very good.

And this is coming from someone who owns 3 of them.

Speaking as a fan, ya I think they're goodlooking, but not to your average person.

Agree with Splinter.

Look at that era's Camry, Accord, Stanza, Sonata, etc. They could all be mirror images.

That's why I start chuckling when people are complaining that the new Impreza looks like a Corolla.

Subaru tried to up thier styling with the 'aero nose', apparently they failed and went back to 'boring'.

That's why I am gonna keep my SS and make it as sleeper as possible...and then pick up a Guards Red 911 post-college...

Those generally don't have any trouble turning heads lol

Because you build your car to you. You want it to look the way you want it.

I want mine to look totally stock with the exception of wheels, jdm fogs and edm tails and headlights.

So for me I want it to go fast and I want it not to look like shit like I think it does right now.

Well theres my $.02 do what you will with it!

Unless you have an extra vehicle as a daily, don't go #2...... Cause it will NEVER be a reliable driver.

#1 is fun, and I argue that you can make it a head turner, but its still alot of work and money.

I'd say #2.
A bit of #1 can be added if you feel it is is nec.

I agree 100% with Splinter, these are not head turning cars & look like '90 Honda Accords which is a plus if you like sleepers (a riced out accord depending on how far you take #1, but still a sleeper).
I remember going to street races in my Galant VR4 like 1000yrs ago & kids with ricer civics were pointing & laughing @ my mint stock appearing GVR4.
They were not laughing by the end of the night - 18psi on the stock TD05!!!!

Since the looks will not turn heads of average folks the performance will have to!

I feel sleeperness is the whole point of LSSs (dull looks+flexy frames+heavy weight can't compare with GC/GF Impreza's (which ricers here in the BX think are factory turbo)) which is why I bought my SS.

All kinds of girls look at my car. Being three different colors with a loud exhaust and bov might have something to do with it.

I think a bit of one and two. The legacy definately has nicer lines than an accord or camry of that era. There are slight bulges on the fenders and matching style lines that give the legacy a bit more aggressive look.

A 30R is very streetable. I've been driving mine since January. It can be reliable, but its not gonna be cheap. I haven't had any serious problems, other than working a couple bugs out, in over 15k miles. I do have a tranny and ecu payment though.

What I'm shooting for in my SS is a combination of looks and performance. I'm going to paint it all red, trim and all, get some nice wheels and eventually put a rebuilt motor in it. I'm interested in some beefing up but I want it to look as nice as it can for what it is and be somewhat reliable. The hood scoop, wheels and re-upholstering should help the looks. My .02.

Back when my old SS was stock I had a few different women compliment how nice a car it was.

Once modded it became a sausage magnet but I still had a few women compliment it......they were usually into cars though.

I think a clean SS with aftermarket wheels and a little drop in the suspension is a great looking car. Not every women is looking for a guy in a Ferrari. A nice, clean car (especially the interior, she has to get in the car!) with a good paint job and no rust goes a long way with the ladies.

how about compromise and make it a low-mid 13 second beast and keep it clean, try not to let rust or dents happen, keep it nice. 11 and 12 second car, you're getting into some pretty serious money and that much power will be pretty hard on the rest of the car namely the trans. yeah, get some sweet 17's but forget the JDM tyte y0 bullshit. I'll say that the biggest regret I have with my wagon is that I kind of beat it up and let it go to shit last winter. I might do a mini resto on it but it'll never be as nice as it was a couple years ago.

I can say that when I'm done with my car's look it will look good. I can't wait until the baby's all red with new wheels and a nice hood scoop. I might also try and see about fitting a bigger wing on the back. But, don't get me wrong, I'm not shooting for the vacuum cleaner wing, just one that's a little more pronounced that's all.

Seriously, no women you'd want would care what you drive. Believe me, they are interested in other things...

So, if you drop sex appeal from the criteria what are we talking?
