My current, soon to be former employer's IT dept is stupid!

Post by Legacy777 »

I swear I've never seen so many stupid policies/things from an IT department. Everything from the phone systems they use, how they setup the domain, policies, hardware, mail system, etc.

My biggest gripe has been lotus notes.....who the hell uses lotus notes for email any more. It is far less feature rich when compared to outlook, not to mention slower. Plus.....with me leaving the company, I'd like to backup my emails and take them with me. With Outlook....piece of cake....pst file. With lotus notes....it's proving to require an act of God to get them backed up and converted to pst without paying for some conversion program.....but even then I still have to jump through hoops.

Well I figure that out....and then was going to burn my files to a cd. Well the cd burner isn't recognized by the windows software nor the other software I could install without admin rights.

So we play the upload & download game.

I've just never seen such poor IT policies/procedures/hardware/etc.

Alright....I'll stop ranting.

We use Lotus Bloats here in our office. It's so horrible. I've given up on the theory of reliable archiving, I've decided to let the company delete my emails when they get too old on the server. If they don't think I need em' I don't think I need em' either.

I've seen IT departments for numerous courthouses (my line of work). Most haven't a clue, there are a lot of under qualified technicians that make bad decisions. I feel your pain Josh.

Whoa. I haven't seen Lotus Notes since 1999.

Well.....I've got them backed up to a pst file....

What a pain in the ass! I essentually had to install a trial version of Lotus notes mail server....install lotus notes, jimmy rig the database so it would open under the new server, and then use a connector MS put out to link notes & outlook. I spent about 5 hours or so saturday night working on it. I had to redo the install twice because things got screwed up.

The mail server doesn't even come with an administering tool.....you have to d/l & install that separately. Even knowing what I know now....it'd still take me 1-2 hours to do the whole process.

I just can't believe how horrible lotus notes is....it has to be the worst mail client evAr!

When I joined this company I was reading through their IT literature. They kept referencing lotus notes.....I thought it was a misprint......boy was I wrong......f'n morons.
