Any die will do if you use a simple round wood furniture knob you can sometimes find at douche-ware stores like Home Depot or Lowes, but also at crafts places (for doll heads I was told). They're less than $2 and can be painted/stained/modified almost any way you want. I drilled a hole that was just a little small for the shaft, lubed it with olive oil and slowly turned it onto the threads in the shaft, reversing the knob every half turn or so like tapping a hole until I got it as far down as I wanted. Worked well, used it for years and didn't get loose.

The only other thing that would work effectively would be to drill and tap small holes for set screws on either side of the shaft or perhaps through the top to secure it, but that's all more work than a simple die.

A small die-cast model of a car. It'd have to have some smooth lines but it'd be kinda cool to have a model of your car in your car....

Eh... nah, go with the shruken head.

I vote for sticking with a real nob, but a PC mouse would be pretty sweet.

You'd have to get a bald shrunken head (fake, of course) or trim the hair so it wouldn't be hanging all over the place. The tough part would be getting a realistic looking one that you could secure to the shifter. Maybe you could get one of those goat-skin ones (look like the real thing except for the tell-tale lack of nose hairs) and somehow slip the skin over a block of wood. it's possible the goat-skin heads do have wood inside, but where the try to emulate the real thing, they probably stuff it with coals or rocks or something.

yeah the socket is the coolest of those.

A screwdriver handle would work too.

A can of pabst (filled with something so it wouldn't crush)

A nice smooth river rock.

A big piece of cork, it wouldn't be hot if left in the sun either.

I had a beer tap for a shift knob for a while. It was a 15" long Budwieser tap. It was awesome... Then I got pulled over. No ticket, thankfully!

+1 for the beer tap; that is awesome.
But bitchwieser? C'mon, we're classier than that. I'd look for something like Schlitz or PBR.
