I took off the cover to my stick shifter (My 91 SS used to be an auto but the previous owner converted it) because it was a crappy one and I now have an SS original. It seems as if the "top" or the "head" is glued on....it looks like the one I have (the original SS)...how do I get it off? Can I just chop it and make a short shifter? Do I have to glue the new one on?
Thanks - Justin
Changing stick shifter?

Are you talking about the gear shifter knob? It should just unscrew.

One time I popped off that shaft while shifting into second --hehe, it was great -- all i had left to shift with was the rubber 'nub' that the shaft slides onto. I put it back and have regretted it ever since. Sometimes your shaft CAN be too long!
