key wont come out of ignition

Hi

so i have a 1991 turbo sports sedan turbo and i just did the 5 speed swap and now i cant get the key to come out of the ignition dam. hmm ive read the wright up and removed the Shift lock (key interlock) box and it makes no differance dose anyone have any idas as to what it could be thanks.

I'm not familiar with the specific problem, but could you swap out the ignition with the donor car? I had a similar problem with a GL (caused by a different issue involving me being a monkey) and used a different ignition switch I hid behind the dash. It actually worked out better since the original broken ignition switch was still in the steering column and the only thing visible with the working one was a hole under the wiper switch (which was a pod attached to the dash under the gauges) just big enough for the key to fit. Not that anyone would have stolen it, but the security was there.

automatic cars, the tranny has to be in park to remove key. bet its something electrical.

i had the same problem in my 5mt swap. IIRC i screwed around with the ignition switch, found the pin that holds the key in, and zip tied it so it wouldnt. it's worked for a few years. sorry I cant be of more specific help.

I never had that problem with mine, and my transmission was in neutral when we disconnected the battery + electrical parts

You need to remove the key interlock system controller. It's up under the dash on the driver's side. Here's some pics

I say leave it in and make a master power shut off switch to the ignition. super ghetto but hey quick fix idea.
