is it just for looks?

What wheel would increase steering performance?

If I have time this weekend, I'll measure the diameter of my Momo wheel compared to my stock one I still have.

What do you mean by steering performance? If you're looking for quicker response, then yes, a smaller steering wheel will help... slightly. Steering rack bushings would help a BUNCH more though.

I mean...is the design of the JDM wheel such that the grip and feel is more sporty?

*sigh* kids these days... (j/k)

I put a WRX MOMO steering wheel in the wife's '98 LGT and it was the exact same diameter. The spoke design is different and I like the feel better than the stocker of course.
