fit what?

Post by kleinkid »

Assuming you mean will they fit an early model Legacy? Yes they will. Just a suggestion, you should have posted this in the Engine section. Oh, another suggestion, but you being a former Datsun mechanic probably know, before you jack up the engine to remove the old mounts, use wooden wedges or blocks in the front of the engine to keep it from drifting forward when you lift it. It wll help align the engine to the new mounts when you lower it. Good luck, have fun.

They fit and work fantastically...

I think everyone should have em...

(I just put in a Group N tranny mount this past weekend too...and I must say it is neat!)

Neat? Ninck, what exactly classifies "neat" in your view of engine mounts?

They give the car a nice stiff feeling, and it helped shifting precision quite a bit

Ah! Ok, I see your point now. Did you also install Group N tranny mounts yet or just the engine ones so far?

What kind of price did you end up paying for all 3 pieces? Teague's (Boxer4Racing) wants $240 for the motor & tranny mounts. Kinda salty for 3 pieces of urethane.

I got lucky and snagged an STi pitch stop from a wrecked '06 Impreza STi on NASIOC for $21 shipped. It's going on the wife's LGT since the LSS comes with a nice stiff metal pitch stop stock.

Well...

I actually didn't pay anything...because the engine mounts came with the car...and the tranny mount was given to me by my girlfriend's really generous, badass, cool neighbor (brand new in box  )

I have seen engine mounts for like $80 and tranny mount for $80 on eBay

It really is worth the $$, if the car didn't have them already it would have been one of the first things I did.

GIVEN TO YOU???? How in the living hell did you manage to get an $80 tranny mount for FREE???? Do you live in some strange version of our world where parts like that are just given away at no charge? If so, I'd like to live there too...

Teague wants $69 each for the motor mounts and $80 for the tranny mount.

Yeeah, I think those prices are abt right. I can't recall what I paid for mine when I did my swap, but I'm with Nick -- you can't put a price on what they actually do for your ride. GN mounts are baddass, period. I do need to snag the pitch stop next, though.

When installing these, I recommend pulling the whole engine out. Ours is so easy to pull, it just makes things alot more accessible to work with.

Any idea if the stock Impreza STi engine mounts would be close to Group N quality or just basically the same as the stock run on any other Subaru?

AFAIK the STi and GN ones are different. I'm not sure in which way, though.

heres a thought i just had, since making suspension shit with heim joints is easy and fucking awesome, why not just make a pitch mount out of an adjustable rod with heim joint ends. let the engine mounts suck up vibration and let the pitch mount be stiff as hell.

I see your point, the lateral stiffness from the pitchstopper would definitely sop up any kind of movement between the bellhousing and tranny.

I have the engine mounts already, and the tranny mount is awaiting a tranny to attach to.

I may be a little late, but Rallispec sells all the group n mounts for much cheaper than what was listed above.
I have group n motor, tranny & pitch stopper & I believe all 3 were less than $200.
I also have group n strut mounts that were like $54 each on the car, & all of the Group N stuff works well.

Skimmed the thread are Group N and STi same/same?...

Well the engine & tranny mounts are the same for all 5spd Subarus.
6spd tranny mounts are different.

GC8 Front strut mounts should be the ones that fit the BC Legacy, ? rears as I have the group N strut mounts on my Impreza.

Give Rallispec a call or e-mail & they will help you out (they have special ordered stuff for me in the past).

I'm not 100% certain & could be wrong, but I believe Group N mount are designed for the rally series, while STi mounts are still a production car mount.

I got a set of Cusco mounts recently (motor & tranny) & those suckers are probably the closest you can get to a solid mount.

Correct...Group N is a rally class...basically 2 liter, homologated cars

Hey, hey, hey now. My ride is an extension of my soul if there is such a thing, and since I'm not homolocated, neither is it!

I thought the cusco mounts weren't made of a poly material, but were some kind of metal and not recommended for street. How do you like 'em?

I also thought they were solid before I got a set.

Each motor mount is basically 2 bolts passing through a sleeve housed in some sort of urathane. Tranny mount is the same basic set-up. These are as close as you can get to solid mounts.

I have not put these on a car & basically got them with a swap I have.

I'm not sure that I will ever use them as I am very happy with the Group-Ns.
