New Guy here

Post by boostedlegacy »

I have a 91 Legacy Sport. Looks like I found the right place. :)

No mods yet. Just been repairing a lot of issues with it. It had a nasty tick and the turbo seemed to not spool to full boost. After about a month of running 92 octane, running the correct oil, and actually putting my foot in it a little; it runs perfect with no ticking and the boost is decent.

I'm a new guy here too, hello : )

you mentioned something about the ticking... do you mean the ticking sound from the engine when driving? cuz I have that too and the sales guy told me it's the turbo pumping the fuel...is this true? and should i be worry about it? Thanks.

i have a 94 leg sedan auto turbo.

If the turbo is pumping fuel I'd be VERY worried!!!

The turbo on Subie's is dry (air only), fuel is Port EFI. If you can hera the ticking while driving it's probably not the fuel injetors, but may be the cam followers. Do a search for "ticking lifters" under engines, and you'll get a buch of options on fixing it.

I checked the car again while I was going for lunch. the clicking sound doesn't start untill rougly 2900 RPM and its a constant clicking sound, doesn't vary with engine speed. The car isn't very rough when the engine is in idle. I filled the car with 91 octane so I don't know if has anything to do with knock. Any idea?

I'll try record a clip of the sound when I get back home tonight.

You'd know knock if you heard it, but it's unlikely you would unless something is realy wrong and your knock sensor is dead (common).

The ticking could be pinging as a result of low octane fuel, but it would also be accompanied with slight hesitation too.

If the oil is low or too thin, the ticking could be your valves, but in that case it would be at all times and not after 2900rpm
