clutch synopsis

Post by twentz90 »

What is generally involved in changing the clutch kit in my 90 legacy 2wd 5spd? What is the best better than stock kit to buy for a stock engine? Ill be thrashing it pretty hard but I know how to drive.

Are you planning on doing anything to the motor, ie cams, pnp, exhaust?

If you're keeping it stock I would actually just recommend an OEM clutch. It will let you slip the clutch better for launching, smoother transitions into gear when you're shifting in a corner on loose road surfaces, etc.

Otherwise, look into an RS clutch - someone correct me if I'm wrong.

well I'm not really worried as much about the clutch as I am the pressure plate. Is the stock replacement pressure plate good enough to handle a lot of abuse?

Well if you aren't worried about the clutch then I take it you won't be doing a lot work to make some more power.

That being the case, the stock pressure plate will be fine. I ran my stock one and when my car meet it's end it had ~230k. It was probably still running the original pressure plate. I had her for 42k and I ran her hard. I didn't abuse it, but I did a lot of launches and hard shifts.

You will be fine.
