FWD Struts 91 to a 93

Post by realfinn »

Hey guys,
I have been doing some searching and haven't been able to come up with a firm answer here.

I have a set of slightly used (around 3,000 miles) GR-2's for my used-to-be FWD 91 L. I have since gone AWD with a much nicer suspension setup. Now with a few hundred dollars worth of suspension bits and pieces sitting around in my basement, I am wondering if I can put my 91 FWD GR-2's onto my 93 L FWD. I am fairly sure that the front struts are exactly the same structurally and am not that concerened about it. However, the rear struts have me wondering. Mainly about the pearch height. I have seen in the suspension compendium (as well as a few other posts) that the 90-91 rear strut pearch is welded (IIRC) 3/4" higher than 92-94. But, I am sure that these dimensions were for the AWD models. Does anyone have a feel for the FWD models?

As for springs I think I am going to put my 2.5 RS springs that I have on. These worked pretty good on the old 91 FWD Turbo (other than the awsome wheel hop I was able to produce).

Thanks for the help.

The struts have different part #'s between the 91 & 93 MY's but I don't see why it wouldn't work just fine if you swap everything over from your 91 FWD.

as far as i know, the only difference you'll find is the fwd rear knuckle holes won't line up with an awd strut and vica versa.
