activeautowerkes or ACTIVEAUTOWRECKERS?

Post by BXSS »

A friend of mine just had a M3 swapped 318TI (332TI now) turboed @ activeautowerkes in FL.

After waiting 4-6 weeks for his car to be completed, spending more than a couple of dollars (their kit is $10K+), & babying the car 1500miles back to NYC he decides to get a feel for some boost.
Would you believe the dam headgasket blew after literally a couple of low boost pulls on the street...

As part of his kit & install the h/g was replaced so he calls them up to let them know what happened & thier response was "you must have overboosted". They set all boost levels when they set the car up.

Mind you they got 430whp @ 16psi, & returned the car with broken diff/body & other mounts so you know they had fun road-tuning the car.

At this point they are ACTIVEAUTOWRECKERS in my book, as I would have expected a better response & customer service than what they have given my friend....

318? Did he change out the rear suspension?

Read this months grassroots motorsports for details on a 325Ti wagon having similar issues. Bimmers seem to do fine with supercharging but turbo charging is dicey. Don think there is engine managment development for them since doing a turbo'd Bimmer is a pretty rare project.

318's make great autocrossers!!

Hope it all works out for your friend.

The car is a 318TI (Hatch) with a full M-Coupe 3.2l I6 driveline, brakes, diff (from a complete wreck he purchased) installed by my friend in his garage.
To say he knew evey nut & bolt on the car is an understatment as he disassembled the M Coupe & assembled the TI by himself!

The reason he went to AAW is that they have sold & installed over 100 of these kits & one would think that after 100 turbo kits the bugs would have gotten worked out.

I honestly do not know what they did for EM, but I do not see an FMU or any other hacks.

I do know the compression was lowered for boost coming from a GT35R.

Yeah, it is still is a sick car that will be sicker when it is sorted.

I have no pics, but it is blacked out, with black M3 staggered rims, & custom int - sort of a small German GNX.

The HG repair began last night so I expect the car to be running soon.
