Do I need to ground stock oil pressure probe?

Headlights to tailights and everything in between.

Do I need to ground stock oil pressure probe?

Post by shemoves »

I've taken out the stock oil pressure probe under the alternator to install an aftermarket probe/gauge. Now that I have taken it out, do I need to ground the stock probe or can I just detach the probe and let the wire hang loose?

From Mulder on NASIOC:

If the probe is hanging, the factory oil warning light on the dash will no longer work. Grounding the wire will turn the light on so you don't want to do that, but you should seal it up so it can't short out anywhere and is protected from the elements.
If you do want the light to work you'd have to reinstall the OEM probe along with the aftermarket one using a T connection.
