EJ20G limitations

Post by tris91ricer »

So I'm having an entirely new EJ20G put in, with Ej20k heads. My buddy back home is working on my car so it'll be badass when I get it back in March. He wants to build the bottom end and do the whole thing up for massive amounts of power. He claims he'd like to see an 85 or 9k redline. Anyone know if that's even possible on a 20g when its built and has management?

i cant really say with the 20k heads. but i can feel that my 20g heads would flow past 6500. because all the way till 6500 the car keeps pulling hard no drop off. and my heads are fully intake ported gasket matched and exhaust ported and polished

That's more about the EJ20K than EJ20G. Is this with hot cams and valvetrain stuff to go with them? I assume that's what you mean by "built", so if you're going do it you'll have to find out for the rest of us.
Why does your friend want to go to 9k?

You really have no need to rev to 9k Tristan...unless you want to be a Honda ricer...in which case you should get a B16

While EJ20K heads flow wonderfully, they aren't going to be doing much anything flow-wise above the stock EJ20K redline, which iirc is in the low 7's

Thanks guys.
No, I personally don't care to see 9k on an EJ engine and I know it's not really possible, but that's what Jeff wants to see it do. He'll get it damn close, that's for sure.
I kinda figured I'd be heading into uncharted territory with this build, so I'll make sure he takes plenty of pics during the install and whatnot. It's also getting new custom paint at the end of this week, so I'll post some pics when I get them.
He's basically ripping out everything that was just done at F4 and re-doing it. Although, the idea is that it's gonna be a show AND racecar by the time he's done. . .

I'll keep you updated!
