Man, i feel stupid as hell. Turns out all the problems i was attributing to my transmission and axles are "just" a misfire/backfiring. So far my problems have been a jerking thats pretty noticeable when going up hills but not too annoying otherwise, and a loud popping i got whenever i put a lot of load on the car, this one 160degree uphill turn seemed to always do it if i took it too hard.
Well, currently i am studying automatic transmissions in auto tech, and in book I'm working in i read something about customer complaints relating to transmissions being very commonly engine problems, and a list of some common things to look for... and what do you know, the jerking thing was in there. Made me go hmm at the time but i really didn't give it any more thought
Fast forward to today in front of votech waiting for class to start and a friend revs his engine, and of course i have to also. i floor it and it sputters and then decides to rev up... i was like woah boy misfire... revved it a few more times and BANG the same noise i attributed to my axle. Needless to say I feel a bit retarded.
The misfire seems to get a lot worse when its cold out, and when I'm stopped at a light, or in park, every once in a while the rpms drop for no reason. After doing a little poking around here I'm starting to think its my timing... does that seems right to you guys? I'm going to take it into class sometime this or next week and give it a looksee... either way, I'm just glad i don't have to continue saving up for a new car.

Yeah, if you haven't done the usual maintenance in awhile, throw the new plugs and wires on there, it always helps. See the posts for our correct plugs designation.
I would also check your fuel filter and replace that if it hasn't been replaced recently. . .
Alot of those easy-fix items can cause annoyances in regular driving if they're not taken care of properly.
