Just installed an STi pitch stop...OMG!

Post by dropdfocus »

Ok, so I got DAMN lucky and came across a fella on NASIOC parting out a wrecked '06 STi he purchased with only 15k miles. I start reading through the parts to find the pitch stop listed as still available. Price... $15!!! DONE! I immediately contacted the guy and being in NY, he only wanted $6 to ship it.

It showed up this week and I finally got the keys away from the wife (her daily driver) today. Yes, the car I speak of is her LGT (sorry it's not apart of the BC/BF class). I removed the Injen intake to gain better access to the stock pitch stop. Two 14mm bolts later and it came out like a charm. I compared the two and the GT one looked more solid, but the STi version was more I-beam designed. Next I checked out the bushings between the two. Instant noticable difference in firmness. Reinstalled everything and put the car back together.

Alright, time for a road test. Pulled out of the alley way & on to the road. Nope, not seeing anything serious just yet. Went down to the main drag in town and messed around. WOW!!!! I should have done this months upon months ago! You can honestly tell the motor & manual tranny don't bounce or move during hard shifting like they apparently did before. Clutch even feels like it's engaging easier or smoother too (and no its not just in my head, the wife made a comment while I was thinking the same thing).

During 1st gear, the car always had a lurch to it because of the heavy stock flywheel. Not so much any more. That seems to have greatly diminished too. After that experience, I'm dead set on now saving up for Group N tranny mount & motor mounts. Yes I know that the STi is not officially a Group N product, but it has been said by Subaru that all the urethane mounts are made with much more firm on the newer model WRX/STi vehicles because the cars will see more abuse than some of the "standard" models in the line-up.

Hey, for $21 shipped, I'm sure as hell not upset with the performance & quality difference of the STi pitch stop...

Yeah Jason, when I did the Group N Tranny and engine mounts it was amazing how much more solid the drivetrain felt. Definitely worth the coin.

I did it too engine and tranny mounts too. They rock. More road noise and vibration but much easier to get into gear in anger. Scotty's cocktail helped too.

I looked into swapping this pitch mounts in our cars and forget what I found out. Perhaps I should look again...

Thanks for the write up.

If you do both the sti engine & tranny mounts, I'm not so sure how much of a difference you'd notice by swapping to the sti pitch mount.

all the GN mounts transformed my brothers old AWD ej18 powered impreza. that combined w/the GR2 struts and the whiteline ALK made that thing an absolute blast to drive around. especially in the gravel.

With the STi motor mounts and that brace. It does not make the car idle more rough? Or overall more rough as a daily driver right?

The last time I did that, I almost got arrested. Apparently, Williamsport police don't like illegal u-turns at WOT from a car that's about as quiet as a volcano.
