what clutches work with cable tranny's

Post by jilo860 »

ive currently got a 5mt out of iirc a 90 legacy wagon. its a cable tranny and its being pushed by an ej22t. well after about 4 months of using a clutch that matched the tranny (remember it was powered by an na engine) i had enough of the slippin. the engine is about to go back into the car after my recent rebuild and im gonna buy a new clutch for it.

problem is, i was gonna use a wrx pressure plate and friction disk but i just realized it might not work since the wrx is hydro and mine is cable. ive never dealt with a hydro subaru gearbox so i dont know if its push or pull on the pressure plate.

will a wrx unit work ok or what should i be goin for. all i need is one that will withstand 200 ftlbs or so. thanks

NA is pull, turbo is push, I think. Just get another clutch and pressure plate for an NA, even an upgraded one. I have the ACT streetlite setup on mine, and I like it just fine. Holds up decent for as many times as I've launched on it.

ok i was just looking around at the clutchnet items. i think im gonna go with a yellow pressure plate and maybe reuse the old friction disk. its still got some good life to it.

Thanks, actually I wasn't sure, but I had to take a stab at it anyway. . .
