alright guys, i got my grubby hands on a book that was handed to a buddy of
mine by a SOA Regional rep.. It's the "Subaru Product Training" book;
basically gives some stats and highlights to what the new WRX is all about
(aboot for you Canadians)... I'm gunna hit the best parts and hope that my
scanning comes out okay. If it does, then i'll post the pics, if not, then
you'll know what to look for when it comes to town in a couple of weeks.

WRX ENGINE:
2L DOHC
227HP @ 6000rpm
217ft/lb @ 4000 rpm
7000 rpm redline
Conforms to LEV standards
INTAKE:
Fuel injectors are a multi-spray top flow design to comply with LEV
The 12-hole pattern improves fuel atomization into the cylinders and allows
a leaner mixture during warm up (FYI: I belive the legacy has a 4 hole
pattern)
New design intake manifold with Tumble Generator Valve for improved cold
start driveability and low-speed operation
Turble Generator Volves above the fuel injectors remain closed during engine
warm-up and low speed operation to create a tumble effect. which impreoves
atomization of intake air entering the cylinders. This creates a leaner
air/fuel mixture to reduce emissions
New cold air intake design similar to third generation legacys.
EXHAUST:
Three catalytic converters: Pre-cat, front cat, and rear cat
WRX TURBOCHARGER:
ECU Controlled wastegate dudy solenoid
Torque curve about 3000 rpm remains the same even in high altitude
Air-To-air intercooler
VALVE TRAIN:
DOHC design makes valve train lighter and more direct allowing for higher
engine speeds then SOHC
DOHC design has can have more aggressive cam profiles because valves are
opened directly by the cam, unlike the SOHC design which requires linkage
between cam and valve
Solid Lifters
WRX Cams are hollow tube design
IGNITION:
Direct Ignition w/ individual coils for each cylinder
This system eliminates the use of secondary ignition wires by mounting an
ignition coil on top of each spark plug
Platinum plugs are standard
TRANNY:
Hydraulic clutch (duh!)
New gear ratios
AUTO: WRX uses variable Torque Distribution (VTD) AWD system
VTD: planetary gear type diff.
Normal driving conditions more power is sent to the rear (45%
front, 55% rear)
electronically controlled.
DRIVETRAIN:
WRX models have viscous limited slip rear diffs.
BRAKES:
11.4 inch front rotors w/ twin piston calipers
10.3 inch rear rotors with single piston calipers
4-channel ABS standard
FRONT SUSPENSION CHANGES:
On sedans, strut top mount moved out 10mm to reduce understeer, improve
handling response, better high speed stability
REAR SUSPENSION CHANGES:
Changes made to improve rear roll stability when cornering, reduce
understeer. Rear Roll Canter will be close to that of the WRC car.
Larger rear strut mount - more contact area
New design rear crossmember, lighter and more rigid
Upper bushing has increased bushing flange for better suppoer to the body.
SEDAN FENDERS:
sedans have blister design to allow a 20mm wider track
WINDSHIELD MOLDING:
new milding directs rain water OVER roof instead of across side windows
(subaru patented design)
SAFETY:
side airbags are standard on WRX
Side impact reincorcement beam placed under rear seat, connects to
c-pillars.
Interior trunk latch for stuck children and victims of crime. Has
self-illuminating handle (phosphorescent handle)
