To disable the Abs all you need to do is pull the ABS fuse. The same thing happens to me when I drive through deep snow or mud, the ABS light comes on. I noticed without abs the cars rear brakes lockup pretty early and modulation is tricky at the limit. I didn't notice and difference in handling though.
