Having some issues with ABS, Airbag, and hazard lights

Post by Brims »

Hi all,

I have to take my Legacy in to be inspected soon, before the inspection sticker expires.

Problem is, my ABS light is on solid, my airbag light is on solid, and my four way flashers (hazard lights) don't turn on.

I pulled the bulbs for the ABS and airbag lights, only to read up on Nova Scotia Provincial Inspection guidelines, that say if the lights don't come on at all during startup, it's a failure. They've been on solid since I got the car, and it's run fine other than this.

My hazard lights are another story. They just won't turn on. There's a connection to them somewhere, because if I turn on either the left or right turn signal, then press the button for the hazard lights, the turn signal turns off. As soon as I turn the hazard light button off, the turn signal comes back on.

Any ideas what might be going on?

has your car ever been in an accident? sounds like a open or short. for starters find the black diagnostic connectors under the dash , below the steering wheel. connect them together and count the flashes of the check engine light. this will give you a DTC number, this will point you in the direction of the fault for the ABS/air bag.

for the hazards, start by checking the fuses and relays. then check the switch for a open. if this turns out ok, the problem is in the wires.

I've done the diagnostics count before, and all I got back from it was a code for my O2 sensor. And as far as I know, the car has never been in any accidents.

=\ Looking forward to ripping the wiring apart, weeeee! Hahahaha

Well I feel like an idiot...

I got the hazard lights working again, along with a bunch of other stuff at the same time. The fuse in the main relay box for the Hazard lights was pulled.. So I replaced it, and now the hazard lights work, the power antenna works (I thought that was dead), and the door chime works (when you have the door open with the keys in the ignition).

The only problem now is that I think the previous owner didn't ground something properly, as after starting the car and turning it off, I get a very small shock when touching the body of the car.

I have an idea of what that is though.. The previous owner hooked a switch up on the dash for some after market fog lamps, and I think that might be causing the problem. I'll have to take a peek at that to see what's going on, but at least for now I'm good!
