After market Blow off valve

Post by sean john »

Someone on the list a while back had some issues with
an after market blow off valve leaking. anyone
remember the brand? I want to avoid it, and would like
to get some recommendations on a new one for my 91
legacy turbo. I would like to be able to install and
set the boost fairly easily.

Nue,

You can't set boost with a BOV. If you are trying to set boost you will
need a boost controller. If you would like a BOV to put on that will not
leak at moderate boost pressures <less then 19psi> then you can use the 1st
gen BOV from the DSMs. I don't know if it will bolt on, but it should be
too hard. If you want something you can tune, the GReddy TypeR BOV is
great. Make sure you follow the directions that come with the BOV though. A
lot of people report an off throttle stumble when they first install the
GReddy piece. That's because they forget to connect the second boost
source. <on the bottom in the back> If you do connect that source, you can
set the srping pressure a lot lighter and still have a good seal. I have it
set up that way in my Eclipse GSX and it will let out the air by just moving
your foot off the throttle 1/8th inch. Works pretty well.... :)

Later,
Gary

OH yea, I think Jason gets a good price on those.. Jason? :)

I use a Bosch BOV I purchased from the Porsche dealer. It it 1" hose fittings
and it flows at 90 degrees so it takes some custom fitting of hoses, but it
flows great and it works really well. The best thing about this piece is the
price. 32$!! I can post the Porsche part number if anyone needs it.This is
the same BOV some turbo shops sell for 40-50$. BillC

Do you has any pic of it? I was thinking to replace the OEM BOV but I
was checked by the dealer and told me the BOV still works well.
Are the Porsche BOV adjustable or will it gives out nice sounds???
