Suspension swap and clearance issues

Post by MannyMohawk#5 »

I have a complete set of 2003 WRX struts with Eibach springs. They are still fully assembled and currently have WRX tophats on them. My first question is, will these fit on my AWD 93 Legacy? If not, what do I have to change to make them fit? I read the sticky and it says to change the spring perches, but I'm a little confused as to what spring/strut combo would necessitate that.

Also, if I am able to use the WRX strut/Eibach spring set-up, will I have enough clearance for 17" wheels with some factory RE92 tires?

I don't see why not, although, 17s might require rolling of your fenders. Are you familiar with what that is?

The rear tophats are a different bolt pattern. You will need to change those to a GC style tophat.

Your stock rear tops will attach to those struts and springs. That's all you need to do to for the stuff to physically fit.

I can't say for sure what will happen to ride height and alignment though.

Most likely it will be lower the the front and around stock height in the rear and you'll have no negative camber.

Thanks for the replies. Changing the rear top hats isn't a big deal, but I'd rather not roll the fenders.

Why would the back still sit at stock height while the front gets lowered?

This forum reminds me of Nasioc already!

So because why? Do you know, or do you just like to post stuff so it seems like you know?

Every 1st gen legacy or impreza I've seen with 02-03 impreza parts sat higher in the rear. The springs and/or tophats are taller I think.

I thought it was because the spring perch on the strut sat higher on the newer GC parts than those on the older legacy.

How wide are the 17's and what size tires are you using? If you have 17x7's and narrower than 225/45 series tires you might be able to swing it without rolling the fenders.

2.5rs rims are 16x7 and look pretty good on our cars. Have you considered using those instead of 17's?

The wheels are Prodrive P1's in 17x7 and the tires are 215/45/17.

I like the RS wheels too, but I'm just trying to see what you guys thought. I'm not a total n00b to Subarus, just the Legacy . :(

I've had a 93 rhd ej20g swapped Legacy wagon for a while, and I just picked a 93 ss that will be my winter car.
