i tried searching around but i couldn't find much information.
i went to subaruparts.com ( http://www.subaruparts.com/catalog/?section=823 ) and found a perrin MBC and a perrin EBC.
the ebc is only about $15 more.
is there plus to having an electronic boost controller over a manual one?
or should i even bother with an ebc...
MBC or EBC?

What you found is probably the perrin EBCS, which is just a solenoid like what is already in the turbo legacy.

boost controllers....
yeah manual equals 4 dollars to like 75
electronic = 150 dollars plus all the way to like 700
you better research this more, they aren't gonna be 15 dollars difference like you think

Probably very little performance difference. Electronic gives you adjustability and maybe some other random features. MBC is reliable, cheap, does the job fine.

Yeah, I mainly means you can't play with it while inside the car. No need really. Just set it & forget it. Unless you are dyno tuning the car, you're best off with a good quality MBC.

that perrin electronic boost controller is just a new solenoid, very much like your stock one. says its used in place where aftermarket reflashes and ecu's can use boost control.

I like electronic boost controllers (or some form of 2 level boost control) as you can go all out @ low boost (say 8psi) have folks underestimate your car, then press a button for hi boost (say 17psi) & spank them.
The Perrin thingy should be listed as a solenoid rather than a EBC.

It does list it as a boost control solenoid.
There are some advantages with an EBC, but for the cost and simplicity, a MBC works fine.
